Background of the Study

E-learning platforms have transformed the education sector by providing students and teachers with digital resources that enhance learning outcomes. These platforms offer flexibility, accessibility, and cost-effective learning solutions, particularly in regions with limited physical infrastructure for education. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the adoption of e-learning globally, emphasizing the importance of digital education in sustaining academic activities.

In Gombe Central Local Government Area, the use of e-learning platforms has increased in secondary and tertiary institutions, offering students access to online courses, digital libraries, and virtual classrooms. Studies suggest that e-learning improves academic performance, enhances student engagement, and bridges educational gaps, particularly in underserved areas (Mohammed & Yusuf, 2023). However, challenges such as poor internet connectivity, high data costs, and inadequate digital literacy among students and teachers hinder its full potential (Abubakar & Ibrahim, 2024).

This study assesses the effectiveness of e-learning platforms in improving educational outcomes in Gombe Central. It examines the extent of e-learning adoption, its impact on student performance, and the challenges affecting its implementation. The findings will help educators, policymakers, and technology providers optimize digital education strategies.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

Despite the growing adoption of e-learning in Gombe Central, its impact on student performance remains uncertain. Many students and teachers struggle with internet access, limited digital skills, and lack of institutional support (Usman & Bello, 2023). Additionally, there is limited empirical research on how e-learning platforms influence academic success in the region (Ibrahim & Mohammed, 2024). This study seeks to assess the role of e-learning in educational outcomes and address the challenges limiting its effectiveness.
